Why do we need a Biocell?
Everyday EMS, Fire and Healthcare professionals around the world respond to the medical needs of the sick and injured. Many times the patients we are called to treat have been infected with contagious diseases as devastating as Ebola or as mundane, yet contagious, as the common flu virus. Federal worker safety regulations require that these emergency workers must be protected from exposure to these diseases by limiting exposure to the patient’s blood and/or bodily fluid. The Biocell is the next evolution in rapidly deployable, bio-hazard protection for the most virulent and high hazard patients.
What is it???
Biocell-APS is a lightweight, seamless, non-slip, translucent plastic barrier that is designed to protect the inside of ambulance and other emergency vehicles from contamination by blood or other bodily fluids that may contain infectious materials. It is designed to provide 360 degree splash protection when transporting contaminated patients after hazmat incidents.
Specs
Installation couldn’t be more simple!
Step 1
Remove the stretcher from the ambulance you wish to install the Biocell.
Step 2
Be sure that the front stretcher floor mounts have no sharp edges that may perforate the Biocell.
Step 3
Both personnel should then fully unfold the Biocell, assuring that the (two) ribbed attachment points for the upper panel are on the top. One crew member works inside the ambulance while the second person stays at the rear.
Step 4
Once unfolded, pull the front panel toward the drivers compartment.
Step 5
Using the disposable wire ties place them through the elastic bands which are connected to the plastic grommets on the Biocell.
Step 6
The corners of the Biocell must then be secured in the same fashion to grab handles, cabinet handles or other stationary wall mounted object.
Step 7
Place stretcher back into the ambulance as normal.
NOTE: You CANNOT use the Biocell in conjunction with any auto-load stretcher devices, stretchers must be MANUALLY placed into the ambulance.
One less thing to worry about.
Emergency medical personnel are constantly putting their lives on the line when they go on a call. Many emergency medical personnel are not prepared or trained to handle most contagious virus or superbug. The CDC requires certain steps to be taken when handling contagious patients. These steps take away valuable time from the patient’s care. Time is something most patients don’t have. Why waste hours covering the ambulance with plastic sheeting and duct tape when you can slide the Biocell into and out of the ambulance while minimizing risk of contamination to the vehicle and crew?
